Included in this Fourth Grade Health Standards for the Entire Year: STANDARD 1: Core Concepts In this unit, students will: Compare and contrast a variety of healthy practices and behaviors to maintain or improve personal, community, and environmental health. Complete a venn diagram with a classmate to compare their healthy eating habits. Read about Physical, Emotional, and Academic differences and learn how to accept others for their differences. Differentiate between communicable and non-communicable diseases. Assess the importance of accepting the similarities and differences of self and others as it relates to personal, community, and environmental health. Learn about genetics and write things they cannot change about themselves. Compare their physical features to others in the classroom. Learn about how nutrition affects their bodies and upcoming changes. Describe how individuals interact within different kinds of family structures. Tell about traditions in their home as it relates to diversity. Examine genetics and its relationship to family history and personal health. Read and learn about Covid-19 and how it started, how it spread, and how to keep themselves and their community safe with diseases. Identify physical and psychological responses to stressors. Recognize how expression of emotions can vary across individuals and situations. Write about when they have felt stress and how their body reacted. Learn ways on how to control stress and when to get help. Identify how each nutrient contributes to a healthy body. Recognize the mental, social, and physical benefits of physical activity. Compare dinner options with other classmates to see which one is healthiest. List physical healthy activities they can do with their family. STANDARD 3: Accessing Information In this unit, students will: Learn about who they can talk to about their health at school. STANDARD 4: Interpersonal Communication In this unit, students will: Learn about the importance of verbal and nonverbal communication as related to their body language. How to enhance their verbal and nonverbal communication. Practice learned communication skills with classmates. Roleplay with classmates dangerous situations and how to say no. Learn 10 ways to avoid situations when confronted to use drugs or other harmful substances. Draw and write verbal and non-verbal ways to reject when offered a harmful substance.
