· UNIT OVERVIEW Health: Unit I,  Personal Health and Wellness The students will learn the importance and inter-relatedness of mental, emotional, social and physical health.  They will be able to identify the differences between what is a healthy lifestyle and what is not.  Students will learn skills to set goals, make decisions, advocate for themselves in regards to personal health and wellness. · LONG-TERM LEARNING TARGETS 1.1   I can identify ways in my life that physical, mental/emotional, and social health are all interrelated. 1.12.3 1.2   I can evaluate the impact of personal health behaviors (including self-esteem and self-concept) on overall health. 1.12.1 1.3   I can formulate S.M.A.R.T goals and plans to reach them. 6.12.1, 6.12.4 1.4   I can make difficult decisions using a strategic decision making process. 5.12.1, 5.12.6 · INSTRUCTIONAL CONSIDERATIONS Student Background Knowledge Nervous system Essential Questions · What does good mental and emotional health look like and how will I know if I have it? · What are emotional health issues and how do I be advocate for myself if I have one? · How many mental illnesses are there and how does each one manifest itself? · What are the advantages of creating a personal health plan for myself?
